Principal Quality Engineer
About the opportunity
Oracle is seeking a Principal Quality Engineer to lead test strategy, automation, and validation for next-generation Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) servers and platforms.
As an IC4 individual contributor, you will provide technical leadership, develop scalable Python automation, and strengthen test infrastructure. You will collaborate with engineering, product management, vendors, and partner teams to resolve complex issues and improve platform reliability throughout the development lifecycle.
This hands-on role spans enterprise hardware, firmware, Linux environments, and integrated software services. You will work directly with laboratory hardware to support system bring-up, platform validation, failure and recovery testing, root cause analysis, and release readiness.

Responsibilities Responsibilities
Test Strategy and Platform Validation
- Define scalable, risk-based test strategies aligned with platform architecture, product requirements, integration dependencies, and release objectives.
- Develop and execute validation plans covering hardware, firmware, Linux, and integrated software services, including system bring-up, functional behavior, failure handling, and regression testing.
- Identify coverage gaps and technical risks, and prioritize testing to balance release timelines with platform quality.
- Perform hands-on testing, analyze failures, document results, and adapt validation plans as requirements evolve.
Automation and Test Infrastructure
- Design, develop, and maintain reusable Python automation and test frameworks.
- Apply AI-assisted tools and techniques to improve test design, automation development, and maintenance, ensuring correctness and reliability.
- Integrate automated validation into CI/CD pipelines and improve test execution, failure reporting, and maintainability.
- Configure and optimize laboratory environments involving rack servers, storage, PCIe devices, and networking.
- Evaluate tooling and provide recommendations for infrastructure improvements.
Defect Resolution and Release Readiness
- Own the reproduction, investigation, and verification of platform defects and customer-reported issues.
- Lead root cause analysis across hardware, firmware, operating systems, and software integration boundaries, partnering with engineering teams and vendors.
- Track defects through resolution, verify fixes, and strengthen regression coverage to prevent recurrence.
- Communicate test progress, release readiness, unresolved risks, and mitigation recommendations.
- Lead post-incident reviews and document corrective and preventive actions.
Technical Leadership and Collaboration
- Coordinate quality engineering priorities and deliverables across concurrent initiatives.
- Influence design and tooling decisions by identifying testability, reliability, and operational risks early.
- Improve engineering workflows, automation practices, and test infrastructure.
- Mentor engineers, share technical knowledge, contribute to hiring assessments, and support inclusive collaboration.
Minimum requirements
Technical and Professional Skills
- Strong Python programming skills and demonstrated experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools to develop or improve test automation.
- Practical experience with Linux administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise rack servers, storage, PCIe devices, and laboratory networking.
- Strong understanding of quality assurance methodologies, risk-based testing, regression planning, and release readiness.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD workflows.
- Ability to diagnose complex failures, perform root cause analysis, and verify corrective actions.
- Strong communication, planning, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Adaptability in a fast-paced engineering environment with short release cycles.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $91,100 to $187,000 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle's differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.
