The Manufacturing Engineer III is a senior individual contributor responsible for leading complex manufacturing engineering initiatives that improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost across production operations. This role applies advanced engineering expertise, systems thinking, and strong judgment to resolve chronic issues, optimize processes, and support scalable, high‑performance manufacturing.

Job Description

Role Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer III provides senior‑level engineering leadership for a plant, value stream, or complex production area. The role owns critical manufacturing processes or technologies, leads high‑impact improvement initiatives, and serves as a subject‑matter expert for process capability, equipment performance, and manufacturing system design. This position works independently on complex technical challenges, supports strategic initiatives such as capacity expansion and new product introductions, and mentors lower‑level engineers. The role typically reports to a Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Operations Director, or similar leader.

Key Responsibilities

  4. Ensure processes are capable, stable, scalable, and aligned with business

  1. Lead development and implementation of advanced manufacturing solutions
  2. Advanced Problem Solving & Root‑Cause Analysis
  3. Lead investigation and resolution of chronic, high‑impact manufacturing issues
  4. Apply advanced problem‑solving and analytical techniques to drive systemic
  5. improvements
  6. Partner with operations leaders to implement sustainable corrective and
  7. preventive actions
  8. Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence
  9. Lead complex Lean, Six Sigma, or operational excellence initiatives
  10. Quantify operational and financial impact of improvements and validate sustained
  11. results
  12. Drive reductions in variation, scrap, downtime, and total cost of ownership
  13. Equipment, Capital & Process Engineering
  14. Lead specification, selection, installation, and qualification of manufacturing
  15. equipment and tooling
  16. Support capital projects, capacity expansion, and automation initiatives
  17. Ensure robust process design, validation, and risk mitigation (PFMEA, control
  18. plans)
  19. Data‑Driven Performance Optimization
  20. Analyze manufacturing performance data to identify trends, constraints, and
  21. opportunities
  22. Use data to support decision‑making on capacity, productivity, and investment
  23. trade‑offs
  24. Support leadership reviews with fact‑based technical insights and
  25. recommendations
  26. Cross‑Functional Leadership
  27. Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, Product Development, Supply Chain, and
  28. Maintenance teams
  29. Support new product introductions, major changes, and lifecycle transitions
  30. Influence decisions and align stakeholders on technical and operational
  31. priorities
  32. Documentation, Standards & Governance
  33. Establish and maintain robust engineering standards, documentation, and best
  34. practices
  35. Ensure compliance with safety, quality, regulatory, and company requirements
  36. Support audits, risk assessments, and continuous improvement of engineering
  37. governance
  38. Mentorship & Capability Development
  39. Mentor Manufacturing Engineer I and II roles and support skill development
  40. Share best practices, technical expertise, and lessons learned across teams
  41. Contribute to building a strong manufacturing engineering capability

Qualifications

  1. Education & Experience
  2. Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
  3. Industrial Engineering, or related field required
  4. Master’s degree or advanced certifications (Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, advanced
  5. manufacturing) preferred
  6. Typically 5–8+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing or process
  7. engineering
  8. Demonstrated experience leading complex, high‑impact manufacturing initiatives
  9. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  10. Deep understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and production systems
  11. Advanced problem‑solving, analytical, and systems‑thinking capabilities
  12. Strong experience with process capability, validation, and risk management
  13. methodologies
  14. Proficiency with manufacturing data analysis, ERP/MES systems, and engineering
  15. tools
  16. Ability to synthesize complex technical information into actionable
  17. recommendations
  18. Strong communication and influencing skills with both technical and
  19. non‑technical stakeholders
  20. Ability to operate autonomously and lead without formal authority
  21. High level of integrity, rigor, and operational accountability
