Hatch is seeking experienced Mechanical Package Engineers in our Mississauga office. The Mechanical Package Engineer is responsible for the technical development, procurement, vendor management, and delivery of assigned mechanical equipment packages for mining, metals, energy, and industrial projects. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary project team and serve as the primary technical focal point for designated equipment packages throughout the project lifecycle, from concept and design through procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning.

The role requires a strong understanding of mechanical equipment, procurement processes, vendor management, and equipment integration within large EPCM projects.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Equipment Package Management
  2. Act as the responsible engineer for assigned mechanical equipment packages.
  3. Prepare and develop equipment specifications, datasheets, requisitions, and

scope of supply documents.

  1. Develop technical bid evaluation criteria and participate in vendor selection.
  2. Review vendor proposals and provide technical recommendations for equipment award.
  3. Lead technical clarifications with vendors throughout procurement activities.
  4. Review and approve vendor drawings, calculations, and manufacturing documents.
  5. Monitor vendor progress and ensure compliance with project specifications and schedules.

Engineering & Design

  1. Develop mechanical equipment design criteria and package requirements.
  2. Perform equipment sizing calculations and equipment selection.
  3. Review PFDs, P&IDs, equipment layouts, and 3D models for package integration.
  4. Coordinate mechanical package interfaces with process, piping, structural, electrical, controls, and construction teams.
  5. Support hazard reviews, constructability reviews, and design reviews.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  1. Support procurement activities through the preparation of material requisitions and technical bid evaluations.
  2. Participate in vendor meetings and kick-off meetings.
  3. Evaluate vendor deviations and concession requests.
  4. Coordinate equipment inspections, FATs, and shop testing activities.
  5. Track procurement schedules and provide input to project execution planning.

Construction & Commissioning Support

  1. Provide technical support during equipment installation and commissioning.
  2. Review field changes and vendor site instructions.
  3. Assist with troubleshooting and start-up activities.
  4. Support turnover and handover documentation.
  5. Participate in commissioning and operational readiness reviews.

Project Coordination

  1. Monitor package budgets and schedules.
  2. Identify technical risks and develop mitigation plans.
  3. Prepare progress reports and package status updates.
  4. Ensure package deliverables are completed in accordance with project quality systems and safety requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

  1. B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration or eligibility.
  3. 15 years of progressive experience with minimum 5 years of mechanical engineering experience within EPCM, consulting, mining, metals, oil & gas, energy, or heavy industrial environments.
  4. Experience managing mechanical equipment packages through engineering, procurement, and construction phases.
  5. Experience with:
  6. Pumps
  7. Compressors
  8. Heat exchangers
  9. Pressure vessels
  10. Tanks
  11. Crushers
  12. Mills
  13. Conveyors
  14. Agitators
  15. Material handling systems
  16. Knowledge of ASME, API, CSA, and relevant industry standards.
  17. Experience reviewing vendor documentation and performing technical bid evaluations.
  18. Strong understanding of procurement and commissioning processes.
  19. Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Preferred

  1. Experience in mining and mineral processing projects.
  2. Previous EPCM consulting experience.
  3. Familiarity with Hatch, Ausenco, Fluor, Worley, Wood, or similar engineering execution models.
  4. Experience with:

  6. AutoCAD
  7. Navisworks
  8. SmartPlant
  9. Plant 3D
  10. Bentley or equivalent engineering systems.
  11. Site construction or commissioning experience.

Base salary range: $115,000 - $165,000
