epilot GmbH
Customer Success Engineer (m/f/d) - B2B SaaS
About the opportunity
Build the platform with us that is changing the energy market
epilot is digitizing the energy industry with a cloud platform that connects utility companies, energy providers, and network operators with their partners. As a growing scale-up from Cologne, we are working to rethink collaboration among all market participants – from product development to service delivery.
As a Customer Success Engineer, you are the technical heart of the CS team. Not just knowing how our platform works – but actively shaping how it should work. Thinking visionary, working hands-on in lighthouse projects, and scaling best practices as blueprints: that's your daily routine. You are not responsible for carrying out standard onboardings. Other teams handle that. You focus on what is complex, visionary, and scalable.
Whether you're a Solutions Engineer, Technical Consultant, or Technical Account Manager – if you're working in one of these roles today, you'll recognize a lot here: complex customer setups, technical consulting, presales support. At epilot, we call this role Customer Success Engineer because it combines all of that – with a clear focus on technical implementation: You configure complex setups hands-on in the platform, transfer proven solutions into reusable templates, and provide structured feedback to the product teams that directly influences further development.
What awaits you
Lighthouse Projects & Advanced Configuration
The largest part of your work: strategically important customer projects where standard solutions are not enough.
You are the interface between Customer Success, Product, and our most technically demanding customers.
- Hands-on work on lighthouse projects and complex Proofs of Concept – from conception to implementation in the platform, supported by a project manager.
- Configure sophisticated setups, identify recurring patterns, and derive reusable building blocks for the entire CS team – e.g., workflow configurations, automation logic, or interface patterns.
Blueprints & Platform Expertise
Side note: Blueprints are pre-configured platform templates at epilot for typical customer scenarios. Instead of starting every project from scratch, you ensure that proven setups are available as ready-made templates.
- Configure, document, and maintain blueprints – based on real project experiences, not theory.
- Test new features as an early adopter and provide structured feedback to product management – always in terms of platform logic, never individual solutions.
- Refine customer requirements in close exchange with product management and support feature prioritization.
- Train and empower Onboarding Managers and Customer Success Managers during the rollout of new features, so that platform knowledge quickly reaches the team.
- Share knowledge proactively: through internal training, documented learnings, and direct exchange – so that expertise scales instead of remaining with individuals.
Sales Support, Community & Escalations
- Presales: Act as a technical sparring partner in demanding sales pitches – convince customers of the ideal setup and clearly represent epilot's interests.
- Champions Group: Build and moderate a group of power users on the customer side who test new features early, provide product feedback, and contribute improvement ideas – as a direct line between customer reality and product development.
- 2nd & 3rd Level Support: Solve complex technical escalations as a sparring partner for our software developers – step in where others can't proceed.
What you bring
What you should bring
- Technical affinity and hands-on mentality – configuring, building prototypes, and finding alternative solutions when necessary are part of your daily routine.
- Several years of experience in B2B SaaS, ideally in a vertical market.
- Project experience in a role such as Technical Consultant, Solutions Engineer, or equivalent.
- Strong communication skills – inspire customers for an ideal setup without overriding their own interests.
- Fluent German and English skills, as you will advise German-speaking customers directly and work in an international team.
That would be a plus
- Experience in the energy industry (municipal utilities, energy providers, network operators, solution providers).
- Practical experience with AI-powered tools for configuration, automation, or prototyping.
- Familiarity with low-/no-code platforms or configurable SaaS products.
- Basic understanding of ERP systems, interfaces, and IT architectures on the customer side.
Your Mindset
- Solutions are the focus, not tickets.
- Close to the customer, but always with an eye on the big picture.
- The right question is not just 'What does the customer want?', but also 'What *should* the customer want?'
- Knowledge is made shareable – through documentation, blueprints, and demos.
